The Puritan Bennett 560 ventilator is designed for constant or intermittent mechanical ventilation support for patients weighing no less than 5 kg who require mechanical ventilation. It is classified as a restricted-use medical device meant to be operated only by qualified and trained personnel under physician supervision. It's important to thoroughly understand these guidelines before commencing use of the PB 560 ventilator.

Specifically intended for adults and children requiring either invasive or non-invasive lung ventilation prescribed by their attending doctor, including:
- Positive-pressure ventilation
- Assisted/support-controlled ventilation in SIMV or CPAP modes
- Pressure-controlled, volume-controlled, or pressure-supported ventilation
